Priya Perfume

A Sapphire's Glow Defies the Tides.

In the lush, monsoon-kissed hills of medieval Sri Lanka, Priya, a Tamil perfumer of unparalleled skill, crafted fragrances that were more than mere scents—they were elixirs of memory, desire, and power. Her workshop in the coastal city of Galle, a bustling hub of Indian Ocean trade, hummed with the alchemy of rare ingredients: Sri Lankan cinnamon, cardamom from the Malabar Coast, and the ethereal lakawood sourced from the forests of Temasek, the ancient entrepôt known today as Singapore. Priya’s perfumes were not just commodities; they were stories bottled in glass, each vial a testament to the island’s rich botanical heritage and her own artistry.

Priya’s creations were adorned with treasures from Ratnapura, the fabled "City of Gems." Here, she sourced pink sapphires, polished into smooth cabochons, which crowned her perfume vials like miniature celestial orbs. These gems, revered in Tamil and Sinhalese culture for their association with divine beauty and protection, made her vials unmistakable symbols of luxury. By 1347 AD, Sri Lanka was a linchpin in the Indian Ocean trade, with Galle’s port teeming with merchants from Arabia, China, and the Malay Archipelago. Priya’s perfumes, carried on dhows and merchant ships, followed seasonal monsoon winds along trade routes to the north, passing the vibrant trade hub of Temasek.

Temasek, a thriving entrepôt under the influence of the Srivijaya and later Majapahit empires, was a crossroads where sandalwood, lakawood, and spices were bartered. Priya’s shipments, enriched with Temasek’s aromatic woods, continued their journey to Java, the heart of the Majapahit Empire, whose courts prized exotic fragrances as symbols of wealth and sophistication. Historical records, such as those from the Nagarakretagama (a 14th-century Javanese text), confirm the Majapahit’s appetite for luxury goods, including perfumes, which were used in royal ceremonies and diplomacy.

Yet, the wealth of Priya’s cargo drew peril. As her ship sailed past Temasek’s mangrove-lined shores, it caught the eye of the Orang Laut, the sea nomads who patrolled the Straits of Malacca. These skilled mariners, often acting as protectors or pirates depending on the tide, attacked the vessel in a swift raid. The vials, glinting with pink sapphires, vanished into the depths or the hands of the raiders, their scents lingering like a whispered promise. Priya, heartbroken but resolute, believed her creations carried a piece of her soul. In Tamil spiritual traditions, gems and scents were conduits to the divine, and she vowed that her legacy—the Sapphire Queen—would one day return, her perfumes reborn to enchant the world anew.

The Lakawood accord, a 2025 innovation, reflects a diverse era where past overharvesting endangered this precious wood. Priya restores Lakawood in Malaysian biospheres, whilst artificially grown trees thrive under controlled atmospheres, Lakawood accord resonates with a touch of mystery. Patchouli, freely sourced from Priya’s beloved Java, lends a rich, earthy note that lingers on the skin, connecting past and present.

BELOVED

2025 AD - The Rebirth of the Sapphire Queen

In the shimmering metropolis of Singapore, Priya, reborn as the Mistress of Trade, reigns as Beloved, a name whispered in awe across global markets. Her empire, rooted in the ancient art of perfumery, spans continents, with her flagship vessel, Sapphire Queen, gliding into harbors from Dubai’s glittering ports to Shanghai’s neon-lit docks. Singapore, a futuristic beacon of innovation, echoes its ancient past as Temasek, its skyline a testament to its unbroken legacy as a global crossroads. Priya’s fragrances—crafted solely from natural ingredients like sacred lakawood from Malaysia’s protected forests, oud from Indonesia’s biodiverse reserves, florals from the botanical ark of Reunion Island, and aromatic citrus grown in India’s solar-powered farms—are hymns to the earth, evoking the past while embracing the cutting-edge precision of olfactory science.

In a world where synthetic fragrances dominate, controlled by governments who monopolize their production and push their use to suppress natural alternatives, Priya’s commitment to nature sets her apart. The metaverse, a digital realm where synthetic scents are marketed as flawless and eternal, is a battleground of ideals. Governments, wielding patents on synthetic molecules, flood virtual marketplaces with artificial perfumes, claiming sustainability and uniformity. Yet Priya’s natural elixirs, rich with the unpredictable beauty of living plants, defy this sterile regime. Her perfumes, alive with the soul of the earth, resonate in the physical world and the metaverse alike, where discerning collectors seek her vials as symbols of rebellion and authenticity.

Her trade network is a marvel of 21st-century technology, blending tradition with innovation. AI-guided vessels and drones, silent as the trade winds of old, deliver her perfumes to bustling ports. The Malabar Shadows, a mercenary faction led by the enigmatic Ravi, ensure the safe passage of her rare ingredients. Across the South China Sea, the Black Sea Dragons, a fierce network of agents, operate from their fortified base in Hong Kong Harbour. Both factions, the Shadows and the Dragons, are more than protectors—they are Priya’s allies in a vision of a world where nature’s scents prevail.

Each vial, crowned with a pink sapphire from Ratnapura’s ancient mines, carries the mystique of the Sapphire Queen. Priya’s visions of medieval dhows, laden with spices and gems, blend with the hum of drones and the glow of Singapore’s skyline. Her perfumes are a bridge between eras, a futuristic hymn to love, resilience, and the timeless allure of the Sapphire Queen, their natural essences a defiant stand against a synthetic world.

Mercenary Factions

Malabar Shadows

Based in Muziris, the ancient port on India’s Malabar Coast—once a hub for Roman and Arab traders, now a biodiverse reserve—the Shadows patrol Indonesia and Malaysia’s forests, protecting lakawood and oud from poachers and corporate raiders. Ravi, a master of stealth and strategy, carries the legacy of Muziris’s maritime prowess, his loyalty to Priya unwavering.

Black Sea Dragons

Led by Kai, the Dragon Head, whose sharp intellect and fearless command have earned him a fearsome reputation, the Dragons secure Priya’s interests across Asia. From negotiating with port authorities to outmaneuvering synthetic cartels, Kai’s faction is unmatched in efficiency, their sleek vessels cutting through the waves like mythical serpents.
